Chile and Brazil Make the Men’s Football Semifinals at Santiago 2023


Following Brazil’s 2-0 victory over Colombia and Chile’s 1-0 win against Uruguay, both teams secured their spots in the next round with one game still to be played.

In their second group stage match at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, Chile faced Uruguay in an intense game. La Roja secured their win with a single goal by Alexander Aravena in the 45+1 minute, creating excitement among the more than 16,000 fans at Elias Figueroa Stadium in Valparaiso.

Despite their victory, Chile’s team faced complications, as defender Felipe Loyola had to be immobilized and then taken to a medical center in the 95+5 minute after losing consciousness following a collision with an opponent. The player is in good condition and an update on his health is expected in the coming hours.

To find out who will face them in the semifinals, the local team must now wait for the Group A results. Colombia or the United States are the candidates to play Chile in the semifinals, as they will face each other on Sunday at Elias Figueroa Stadium at 18:00.

BRAZIL ADVANCES TO THE SEMIFINALS

Brazil’s national team secured a spot in the semifinals by defeating Colombia’s national team 2-0 at Sausalito Stadium in Viña del Mar. Brazil achieved the victory with goals from Guilherme Cunha in the 16′ and Gabriel Pirani in the 51′.

Colombia will have to secure a win against the United States to qualify for the semifinals. Brazil, on the other hand, has already qualified and is awaiting their opponent in Group A.

IN A TOUGH MATCH, MEXICO SHARES POINTS WITH THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Mexico’s squad was superior to the Dominican team for the majority of the second half, but they were unable to take the lead. The match, which was at times rough in the midfield, accumulated 31 fouls, resulting in three yellow cards for each team.

Following the game, players from both delegations exchanged pushes, resulting in the expulsion of Antonio Leone, a Mexico substitute and Omry Bello, the Dominican Republic’s substitute goalkeeper.

UNITED STATES SECURES VICTORY IN THE FINAL MINUTE

The United States national team won 2-1 in extra time against Honduras at Sausalito Stadium in Viña del Mar. Honduras’ team took the lead in the 19′ with a goal from Antony Garcia, but the USA squad recovered in the 72′ thanks to Daniel Leyva.

In the last minutes of the match, Theodore Ku Dipietro secured the winning goal in the 90′. Following this, the match became tense and player Daniel Carter was sent off for striking USA’s player Nicolas Carrera.
